Black History Month comes to a close today, but we’re keeping it alive by dropping a funky video essay about the 1973 blaxploitation classic, COFFY starring the one and only @PamGrier - https://t.co/KBy6Z1j289
@westonfront I’m sure we talked about a sort of 70’s era ‘Blaxploitation’ image of the Doctor - obviously in the most positive sense of the world for those that are not aware of such an underground diverse genre of cinema back in the day. :)
Love it.

69. Buck Wild a.k.a. Rufus Wild. Milestone and McDuffie's funny parody of Luke Cage and a commentary on the depiction of black superheroes as a whole. His brain is frozen in '72 so he talks like a blaxploitation character and filled in for Icon for a while, growing into his own.
Films I watched today:
BLUE VELVET (1986) [One of David Lynch's masterpieces. Personally, I'm not a huge fan.]
THE CANDY TANGERINE MAN (1975) [Can blaxploitation protagonists... not use homophobic slurs?]
AVALANCHE (1978) [Not great, but it gave me my favourite MST3K episode.]
#TheHumanTornado (1976). The sequel to 1975's #Dolemite gives us more of the same; a silly Kung Fu #Blaxploitation featuring Rudy Ray Moore's poetic pimp. @fthismovie #NowWatching #Junesploitation

When people hear "blaxploitation horror" they tend to think of silly Blackenstein, but there were plenty of serious, creepy and well made horrors that were nothing like that movie...
