2/3 Vincente Carducho (1576-1638) was an Italian painter who was commissioned by Philip IV of Spain to create a series of paintings to commemorate the founding of the Carthusian Order of monks. This painting of St Anthelm being made bishop is from this cycle.

4 May 1535: William Exmew is pressed by Thomas Cromwell's agent Thomas Bedyll to acknowledge the King's Supremacy just as three priors were going to their deaths.

Exmew was hanged with two of his confrères on 19 June.
