tbf even my previous rendition of him had darker skin than the official art, so i basically just turned him from gorgeous to even more gorgeous hahaha

This show is so good, they don't make mahou shoujo isekai like this anymore.
It starts off innocent but it gets darker as the story progresses. The setting and worldbuilding is really interesting, I'm awaiting what it has in store for season 2.

always thought modern anime looked more shinier+flatter coz they use softer shading + palette.

old anime tends to have more darker shading (esp. in 90s OVA), and color choice tends to be more bolder
