I love when you can immediately call who directed the animation with one glance 😂 https://t.co/2EPupSxNSB
Thunderbolts* (2025) directed by Jake Schrier
A movie about outcasts and objectively terrible or (if only) immoral people that takes time to allow sympathetic understanding of them as "people"—good, bad, and ugly. Crazy what really homing in on general themes can do
Feast of Amrita (2023) directed by Saku Sakamoto 坂本サク
On a technical level, a big upgrade of several departments in Sakamoto's animation approach. It's also just downright a lot more ambitious; and more narratively consistent, or focused, in its sort-of non-linearity
Aragne: Sign of Vermillion (2018) directed by Saku Sakamoto 坂本サク
This movie's biggest weakness is that that CG models are very noticeable and have no expressions/emotions, and a screenplay that feels like it tries to juggle a little too much too quickly
Clannad (2007) directed by Osamu Dezaki 出﨑統
A lackluster attempt at making a standalone film based on a visual novel, but still has enough heart to make it, at the very least, interesting
Air (2005) directed by Osamu Dezaki 出﨑統
An incredibly good example of taking a visual novel and condensing a portion of its contents into a single feature-length film that retains both expression and narrative cohesiveness.
When Trumpets Fade (1998) directed by John Irvin
Interesting to follow a selfish, "POS" American protagonist; but against the backdrop of a battle with "little to no strategic value" and American generals aimlessly sending men to their graves, yeah why not
Emitaï (1971) directed by Ousmane Sembène
My first Senegalese movie and one in a native language at that (Wolof) about French colonialism and the local indifference between Nazi collaborator Marshal Pétain's rule and Charles de Gaulle's in treatment of the Jola
⚠️ADVISORY⚠️
Hi guys!
The account of @Navyde_Kesorm has been compromised. The hacker claimed that they have falsely reported my X account and redirected me to follow a certain "X official". This is a SCAM and he might have messaged other users as well.
Kindly refrain from… https://t.co/QEQPGTi2Oq
Mononoke: Phantom in the Rain (2024) directed by Kenji Nakamura 中村健治
Looks great but it offers almost no breathing time in its script pace nor storyboarding tempo. It is an overwhelming stimulus to the point that I think it is quite negatively affected by it
Hiroshi Nishikiori asked Hisaharu Iijima ~2022 or 2023 for a background for the Idolish 7 movie he directed at studio Orange. Iijima ended up drawing 2 (and a half?? or something) of the screen backgrounds
The last time they worked together was 2008 (Yotsunoha), I believe
The Ascent (1977) directed by Larisa Shepitko Лариса Шепітько
Before Elem Klimov, Shepitko's husband, made Come and See, Shiptiko made The Ascent. They're two different films, but I think you can find Sheptiko's influence in how Klimov later tells his own story of this kind
Worked again on some backgrounds for this animation with the amazing team directed by @KieruArt !! Thanks for having me and good job to everyone!! https://t.co/NqTZXJ74Uq
The Battle of Algiers (1966) directed by Gillo Pontecorvo
There's a lot to like about this film not considering its subject. The newsreel style, on-site principle photography (and cinematography in general), lack of "proper" actors besides Mathieu/Massu, etc.
Great stuff
I Am What I Am (2021) directed by Sun Haipeng 孙海鹏
I heard there was controversy in China over the "exaggeratedly" slanted eyes, but I vibed with it and think it's cool. It doesn't wade into stereotypical caricature by any means, so I agree with producer Zhang Miao. Fun movie
Just my thoughts on how this perfectly directed episode was able to grasp & convey naturally to the audience exactly what they were feeling in this scene
And how this scene itself was able to strongly portray the butterflies in your stomach that come with a 1st time romantic love
I’m sorry but why those 2 blobs of paint directed our eyes right where they supposed to look at 👁️👄👁️
