The Eleusinian Mysteries, one of the most acclaimed religious festivals in the Greek world honored Demeter, goddess of the harvest and her daughter, Persephone, queen of the underworld. The myth is allegorical of agricultural renewal, from life to death and back.

On #InternationalMissingChildsDay here are Persephone with her mother, pre-abduction (statuette from Melos) & reunited, receiving a woman initiate into Eleusinian Mysteries (tablet from Eleusis). This story had a fairly happy ending and Persephone got to wave her torches again
