In Western art the moon as a symbol has developed interestingly. In the 18th Goya took it to be the guiding light of ‘the other,’Friedrich’s Man and Woman Contemplating the Moon figures the moon as a trigger for philosophic inquiry.Whistler’s nocturne talk of the changes at night

Shadow Queen

"Thanks to the Grand Duke Friedrich’s proposition, Elena became his fake daughter. Yet after marrying the Crown Prince, having his child, and acquiring land to oversee herself, the 'late' Duke's daughter, Lady Veronica, appeared before her."

Fun artwork fact!
My "Retro Skies" artwork is inspired by the masterful 19th century Caspar David Friedrich’s "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog(1918)". Having studies 2 yrs of art history in Uni, there's many older paintings I drool over at museums.

With its almost completely abandoned spatial depth and its flat strictness, the work is one of Caspar David Friedrich’s most radical compositions. At the same time, it belongs to the most festive paintings of this painter.📖 https://t.co/EHc9qrOoRn 🏛 Kunst Museum Winterthur 1818

I first saw this as the cover of my boyhood copy of Hesse’s Narziss and Goldmund, so it is always the abbey at Maulbronn for me. Casper David Friedrich’s Abbey Among Oak Trees from 1809, seen in person today.

Today I realised I could find joy & peace during this crazy time in escaping back to nature. The natural world needs our care & attention right now. And just look how beautiful it can be! I leave you with Caspar David Friedrich’s ‘Morning in the Mountains’ (1822-23). Much love 💓
