Hogarth's 'Trump'
Hogarth adored this little dog and he features in his paintings often. Once he was even painted urinating on the portrait of one of Hogarth's critics.

'Beer, happy Produce of our Isle
Can sinewy Strength impart
And wearied with Fatigue and Toil
Can cheer each manly Heart
Genius of Health thy grateful Taste
Rivals the Cup of Jove
And warms each English generous Breast
With Liberty & Love!'

@jetblackraider Maybe you can experiment with dynamic poses? There's a lot of drama that can be found with fun poses and camera angles. I hear Morpho: Simplified Forms is a great resource, and I can personally attest to the value of Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy.
For this #MuseumsUnlocked here are a Hogarth 1st state & some Hogarth #CastsCopiesandForgeries. LWL Curator Cynthia Roman wrote about "Copying The Sleeping Congregation" in "Hogarth's Legacy" (Yale Univ. Press 2016). Can you tell which of these is the Hogarth print?

Burne Hogarth's "dynamic figure drawing" and "dynamic anatomy" are excellent books though. It's where I learned *a lot* about figure drawing.

Wonderful to see photos of a mackerel seller and muffin man - proud traditions! See Laroon's print from 1688 https://t.co/hcW3TGToSh Hogarth's from the 1740s https://t.co/KbiAV7kkzy. https://t.co/uhzIXFaL6O
Hogarth's Servants, 1750's oil-on-canvas by William Hogarth
Another unruly crowd, this time for Francis Goodchild's Lord Mayor's Procession. Hogarth's account of the parallel lives of the Industrious and Idle apprentices is on the surface a simple morality tale - but his view seems a bit ambiguous. Satirists never tell a simple story.
Hogarth's Industry and Idleness. Which apprentice weaver will become Lord Mayor of London? Which will end up at Tyburn? Can't resist showing sketches for the cat who's playing with Tom Idle's shuttle. Come and see them when @britishmuseum opens again. Next instalment tomorrow.

CLOSING SUNDAY 4TH AUGUST: Prints of Darkness: #Goya and #Hogarth in a time of European Turmoil.
