Here is the family – and dog – in 1733, also painted by her friend William Hogarth.

For the benefit of this extraordinary story it is also worth noting that her husband was called ANNE – a rather cringey attempt by his parents to court the favour of Queen Anne 👶

Here are the other two self portraits I chose for my online Sketchbook Saturday for plus my quick live demos on my iPad, using to mimic pencil and pastel. Cezanne and Hogarth.

Probably my oldest still active character, bar Hogarth.

I even attempted to make a fursuit of her yeaaars ago. Also check out her gorgeous plush made by with magnetic skull!

It's good to spread the word. I find younger artists who don't know about Hogarth. Not everybody needs the master classes, but they should know where to go to find them. Otherwise, they're stuck learning how to draw comics from Christopher Hart. 😩

Hogarth was one of the giants of English art, known for his painting, illustration and etchings. He was also a well known satirist, a portraitist and a producer of 'conversation pieces', like this one.

Some of the most colourful items from the Layton Collection are from the print collection, with works from the 17th to 19th century. They include topographical prints as well as rare prints of works by Pugin, Canaletto and Hogarth. https://t.co/saq8mP4aS4

A very rare medal of the Order of Gormogons, a splinter quasi-Masonic group headed by Philip, Duke of Wharton, former Grand Master of English Freemasonry. The order was ridiculed by William Hogarth. Hogarth, like his brother in law, James Thornhill, was also a Freemason.

Detail of a 1730s conversation piece by William Hogarth. The small hands holding a silver tray at bottom left are all that remain of an enslaved African boy, who was cut out of the canvas by someone unscrupulous. https://t.co/Z1lcwTdel8

Fab review of show & book in this week’s “brings the artist out from the shadow of William Hogarth... In Highmore’s hands, character never slides into caricature.” More on book here https://t.co/m1NVoFeWNL
