The biggest irony here is how much more this resembles a classic Hudson Soft puzzler—not even just their famous version of Lode Runner—than it does anything Falcom had made.

Perhaps Hudson's many Ys games for PC Engine CD had made them the series' inheritors in some fans' eyes?

Max is so underrated, A cool design that breaks the mold without betraying conventions and Bomberman Tournament fleshed out his character and tied him to both earlier games as well as Hudson's Neutopia series.

It's cool he's managed to live on in some form, 2+ decades later.

Mrs Hudson's sheets here are just exquisite, again hard to attribute but I would presume Kondo, as all key characters were defined under Miyazaki's supervision.
