according to a Game Informer interview, Snorlax's JP name (Kabigon) was actually inspired by Kirby. Nishino (Snorlax's inspiration) was called Kirby because he was known to eat a lot.

Rockets try to put Kabigon to sleep by hypnotizing it and singing it to sleep, (with Musashi pretending to be its mom) but sadly nothing works.

During development of Pokémon Red and Blue, Kōji Nishino, who inspired Snorlax’s design, was nicknamed Kirby at Game Freak because he’d usually eat a lot and sleep. This joke ended up being implemented in Snorlax’s Japanese name, Kabigon (kabi being pronounced as “kaabii”).
