Students examined the colors and lines in Wassily Kandinsky’s abstract paintings. Students created colorful hearts with crayon and watercolor . #BeEvergreen #Artsonia #kandinsky
First time I saw Kandinsky’s work I saw: movement. Instantly could see it animated.
And then I went to look at his work and this piece, named Composition 8, which implied to me that he was inspired by music. End up choosing Orange to animate.
Münter was born to a well-off Berlin family. In 1898 she spent 2y in the US. From 1901 she studied at a range of schools & came into Kandinsky’s orbit. She was his partner for 10y. Münter by Kandinsky (1903) & early drawings (1902), including a self-portrait
The central motif of Kandinsky’s painting, called “Improvisation 31 (Sea Battle)” (1913) is a pair of sailing ships locked in combat…their tall masts appearing as slender black lines. ⛵️
Cannons blast as the ships are tossed upon turbulent waves .🌊
@timoconnorbl @KennyFarq ‘Kandinsky’s art sometimes contained geometric elements to which he attached mystical meaning, as people often have throughout history.’

#Kandinsky’s art was influenced by early 20th century #music, losing original forms & became abstract concepts. He referenced #Schonberg, painting a concert in 1911. Did he have synaesthesia, this is oft debated. Films of him show his fluid & rhythmic gestural technique #vss365
20th century Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky’s fascination with vibrant colour remained a feature of his works even as they progressively moved toward abstraction ~ Couple on Horseback / Landscape with Factory Chimney / First Abstract Watercolour (1906-1910)

Like Picabia’s painting, Kandinsky’s improvisation is not entirely abstract.

Chaotic harmony ~ Kandinsky’s ‘First Abstract Watercolour’ (1910), often cited as the first purely abstract artwork
