Ken Gritz, a up and coming star passed Jan Opperman with 3 laps to go to win the 1969 Knoxville Nationals! The morning of the race while helping a fellow racer on his car he received major facial burns when the fuel tank caught fire! 16 days later he died in a crash racing.
