At first, she just happened to run the inn Kyrinna and friends stayed at. Then she turned out to be both a doting hostess and an undefeated BAMF. She ended up adding more to the Melaton arc than I expected!

Maybe this isn't the spirit of the question, but...Kyrinna Strauss is an accomplished alchemist who's weaponized her trade.
She's usually carrying a satchful full of flasks--some containing medical ointment...others full of acid or napalm!

The very first character I ever came up with for my novel Tenesoir Memoirs wasn't the main character Kyrinna, or her friend Zeltencia--it was Cydia Myssil, the hard-drinking bandit.
(Even more obscure: her last name was very briefly Gliessi!)--
