To be honest, I'll rather have an MTL than a localization which inserts the localizer's politics. Both are bad, but I'd at least be willing to give the MTL a shot, localizations like these on the other hand are a reason to drop it and never look back:

Streets of Rage is the localized name so maybe the people localizing it knew and went with it, but it's hard to say. The Japanese name is just Bare Knuckle.

Also in Final Fight, the main character is named Cody which is almost certainly a reference to Tom Cody.
