Having a ton of fun redesigning my OC.
I'm learning to optimize the design for replicability. This one for example, uses a simple, untextured 3D model and gradient maps to serve as pseudo blender shader nodes to save myself time coloring.

Working with gradient maps is still a little difficult but it gives interesting results :
compare XP's tileset to VX era or MV
yeah sure xp was desaturated but I think it makes the tileset blends well to the surroundings.
MV and VX era kinda felt garish/bold. I think the more realistic texture it had, the more uncanny it looked with grid/non parallax maps

I drew this in B/W first and then colored it with gradient maps, it takes a long longer but it has an interesting effect. I hope it looks okay.

@JabroniCalzones maps done by creators like QXY are my total favorite though, could see why its maps are so hard to reach

@RealProfTerra none. the shadow is blue multiply with orange edges and the ambient occlussion is dark brown normal layer
