All the fun of the fair torture style on a Meissen cup outside painted circa 1740. It appears to be a figure tied to a wheel watched from above by prisoners tied to stakes watched over by guards.

You may think this is a cup & saucer but you would be fooled. It is in fact a Derby cup & saucer, a replacement for a missing or broken Meissen cup and saucer. If is proof that such Meissen services were valuable & deemed worthy of replacements. Very few of these exist.

Some truly exceptional porcelain at auction in Germany at the moment including this cryptically signed and dated porcelain tray painted by Johann George Heintze. Dated "1735" and monogrammed "H Z" in the capitals of the pillars on the left. Amazing!

A ? that I have found myself asking quite a bit lately. Are these 2 pillars surmounted by globes on this Meissen cup references to the Solomonic pillars Jachin and Boaz? These were the pillars on the forecourt leading to Solomon‘s Temple. If not what else could they be?

Masonic finger gestures found on porcelain of the 18th century can also be found in the ceiling paintings at .This examples shows fingers opened to replicate compasses, communicated between Mercury & a personification of Architectute with set square below.
