Probably the closest Wellington came to losing his army in a large scale pitched battle after a dangerous overextension of his right flank was capitalised on by Massena.

Marshal André Massena, Prince of Essling, Duke of Rivoli died in 1817. A formidable soldier for much of the revolution and empire, defeating Korsakov at Zurich in 1799 and playing a major role at Wagram.

Fought 27 Sept 1810 The Battle of Bucasso.
To block Marshal Massena's invasion of Portugal, Wellington chose a very strong position on the heights of Bucasso.

His army consisted of 25,000 British, 25,000 Portuguese & 78 guns, against 60,000 French with 112 guns.
