Bringing old stories to life at the House of Manannan, a scene by Julia Ashby-Smyth. Inspired by the Medieval manuscript, The Chronicles of the Kings of Man and the Isles. In 1228, King Olaf II faced his brother Reginald at Tynwald. It didn’t end well for Reginald!

My favourite thing about Penlee House is the picture The Pied Piper of Hamelin by Elizabeth Forbes: I think she is a hugely underrated talent and often better than her more famous husband, Stanhope.

The Newlyn School artists are famous for painting outdoors, ‘en Plein air’. The Cornish light and landscape attracted painters to Newlyn.
