These plates were handpainted by Ida Woodward in 1934. Evening classes for amateurs to paint pottery were held between c.1920 - 1950s. The pottery was made at Clokie & Co. Ltd. After painting it was returned to the pottery for its gloss firing

King George V & Queen Mary visited Wakefield 10 July 1912, during their tour of the industrial north. They spent 20 min at E. Green & Sons, where workers' families waited to see them in the factory yard opposite a large model of Green's 'Economiser.'
