This wageneriana was published in The Genus Masdevallia (1891-1896). The plates and text were by Florence H Woolward (1854-1936) who used the plants growing in the extensive collections of the Marquess of Lothian at Newbattle Abbey

Spanish Armada vessel El Gran Grifon wrecked on Fair Isle. Crew shipped to Anstruther in Fife. For some reason Captain's chess was left at Newbattle Abbey in Dalkeith and is still there today.

Cistercian Abbey of Newbattle, Dalkieth (Scotland) watercolour reconstruction suggestion. Abbey still has the chest from the Armada vessel the El Gran Grifon that was wrecked on the Fair Isle. Crew made their way to Fife and Captain's chest left at Newbattle in 1588.
