Spirals appear in prehistoric Irish art all the way back to the Stone Age. They are believed to be symbolic of the sun & it’s clear from ancient monuments (such as Newgrange) that sun worship held an important place. I’ve taken that symbolism & integrated it with hope.

The sun was an important part of Irish prehistory & can be identified in the spiral carvings on sites such as Newgrange & in the survival of the ring on Celtic Crosses. Here, in my original ink on paper drawing, I’ve taken that idea & integrated it with flowers & serenity.

Fantastic new details emerge of no fewer than 22 monuments imaged during the summer drought near Newgrange. All sparked by my discovery (with Ken Williams) of a giant henge.
