The Nordic Gnome decided to visit Newgrange for the winter solstice. A truly magical sight - the sun rises and the light reaches into the mound.

Spirals appear in prehistoric Irish art all the way back to the Stone Age. They are believed to be symbolic of the sun & it’s clear from ancient monuments (such as Newgrange) that sun worship held an important place. I’ve taken that symbolism & integrated it with hope.

The sun was an important part of Irish prehistory & can be identified in the spiral carvings on sites such as Newgrange & in the survival of the ring on Celtic Crosses. Here, in my original ink on paper drawing, I’ve taken that idea & integrated it with flowers & serenity.
