#OTD in 1622 Antwerp born Frans Pourbus II died in Paris. Pourbus worked for many of the highly influential people of his day. In this family portrait of Charles, Prince of Arenberg, his wife Anne and their elder children (c1593), Pourbus added a self-portrait in the background.

There’s so much to look at in this wonderful portrait of Charles d'Arenberg & Anne de Croy with their family, painted in c. 1593. The artist, Frans Pourbus the Younger, also included himself in the portrait. [© KIK-IRPA, Brussels (Belgium), cliché KN1017]
This banquet scene, dated c.1547, is by the Flemish painter #PieterPourbus, and is one of his greatest masterpieces.
It represents a complex allegory, testament to the intellectual environment of Bruges in the mid #16thcentury.
