23 July, 1812, Davout defeated the VII Corps of Raevsky at the Battle of Saltanovka/Mogilev, causing Bagration's 2nd Army to flee for Smolensk.
Barclay's 1st Army, unaware of this, arrived at Vitebsk. Their union, again, was hampered for their own good.

Russian🇷🇺General Nikolay died in 1829. He fought in the major battles of the 1812 campaign and gave his name to the Raevsky Redoubt on the Borodino battlefield.

in 1812: The Battle of Saltanovka. Bagration sends Nikolay Raevsky's VII Corps to drive Davout's vanguard out of Mogilev and to open the road to Vitebsk and Barclay's First Army. Raevsky fails to break through but wins Bagration valuable time to retreat to Smolensk.
