I don't have moodboards, but here are the MCs from book 1. It's a fantasy whodunnit. Yaetherim is a fairy searching for the Rychillans who attacked him and left him for dead. Tenora is a Rychillan Arch-Mechanic investigating why engines are malfunctioning.

Most of them. Rychillans use steam engines, driven by fire and water magic. From this, they've developed road vehicles, ships and airships.

Fairies usually fly around. Rychillan vehicles have handles built onto them to allow fairies to hitch a ride.

My Rychillan characters wear short (1" long) sleeved or sleeveless tops, usually in a steampunk-esque style. This is partially due to the humidity & heat, and partly due to the practice of tattooing terax marks (social status indicators) along the arms.

It's not a 'big battle', those don't happen in Rychilla. But Yaetherim carries scars from the time he was attacked by two humans in the forest. There's 8 on his arms & legs, another across his chest, & several on his soul. Also a hole in his right wing.

Yaetherim is a forest fairy, and Tenora a human (Rychillan) from the town of Alkentoft. Both want to find out who is killing to cover up illegal rune experiments. Aside from that, they're quite different. They don't even have magic of the same element.

Rychillan clothing is usually light and sleeveless. The former due to the subtropical climate, and the latter due to the tattooed marks along the arms. These indicate social status, profession, and other achievements. Covering them is considered dishonest.

Rychillan fashion is 'short sleeved steampunk'. They have tattooed marks along their arms (terax marks) that indicate profession, rank, social class & noteworthy achievements, and don't want to cover these up.

It's also a humid subtropical climate.

This is Nelack, the wandering mage. After nepotism cost them a job as a mage in their hometown, they set out to find their place in the Kingdom of Rychilla. While doing so, they help those in need they come across.

Nelack is friendly and talkative.

My Rychillan (human) characters use cars, buses and lorries, driven by steam engines. The steam comes from water and fire elemental magic.

Fairies usually fly. But the human vehicles have handles on the roofs, to allow fairies to grab on and hitch a ride.

Rychillans have tattoos known as 'terax marks' going up their left arm, starting at their wrist. These indicate profession, rank, social status and accomplishments. This can be seen on the artwork of Karis and Tenora below (art by ).

Arch-Mechanic Tenora Perskel has naturally blue hair and violet eyes. (Rychillan version of red hair and green eyes.) She's usually has at least one or two smudges of grease or oil on her.

Her favourite colour is yellow, so she usually wears that.

Fairies in Rychilla transform shortly after they get their magic, to better match their element. E.g. florakinds get bark-brown skin and leaf-green hair, waterkinds get blue skin, webbed fingers + toes and freckles that resmble coral, etc.

Terax marks, the tattoos along Karis' left arm in the image. All Rychillans have them. They show class, profession, rank & achievements.

Originally was just one tattoo. But it needed to be dynamic. Figured it out after seeing a bloke with a tattoo sleeve.

Glasses are available in Rychilla. Generally speaking, anything that was around in 1901 could be. Naeliya, one of my MCs, does wear glasses. Yaetherim, another MC, has a brother who wears glasses.

My Rychillan characters drive steam cars, which come in a variety of different body styles. Fire and water magic provide the steam.

Fairies just fly everywhere. But the handles on vehicle roofs are there for them to grab on and hitch a ride.

Rychillans wear sleeveless or short-sleeved outfits, for 2 main reasons: it's a subtropical climate, and their arm tattoos convey social status. Covering them up is considered dishonest.

By Rychillan standards, a 1" sleeve is long.

Nelack is nonbinary. They're known as 'the wandering mage', owing to their lifestyle traveling across the Kingdom of Rychilla. They've seen more of the kingdom than anyone else.

They'll be a key player in my second book, and a core character afterwards.

Secondly, Nelack is the 'wandering mage'. They stand at 5'1", unusually short for a Rychillan. They've also got heterochromia. Both their eyes are natural colours for Rychillans, though.

Yaetherim lost his purpose as a forest protector. He was on patrol when two Rychillans attacked him and left him for dead. His injuries, including a hole in one wing, meant he had to retire.

As for who attacked him, that's the plot of the first book.

Nelack Elmet is a non-binary mage, who missed out on a career in their home town due to nepotism. After a divine nudge, they've spent three years wandering around Rychilla, doing good deeds and learning. They know more of the kingdom than any other Rychillan.
