The Portico's 1781 Icones Plantarum Rariorum contains delicately coloured drawings such as this of the flower salsify (or goatsbeard).

Its compiler, Nikolaus Jacquin, traveled extensively in the Caribbean and Central America and was close with Mozart and Alexander von Humboldt.
