a very obvious one but sonic 2's death egg robot (designed by Judy Totoya) is inspired by Kunio Okawara's mechanical designs, especially the Scopedog from VOTOMS, and also by the Claw Robot from Casshern (a design Totoya mistakenly thought was Okawara's)

Way more apparent here than Sharla in Xenoblade 1. Valdi even moves like Mellowlink at times.
