As a reward for reading through all of this, I'll show you the first two drafts of S3 Sonic.

@SkyeJonessss So basically when Sega wanted to make a new rival for sonic, they've had the idea of a black and red cat. They didn't loved it too much and went on a more dark version of sonic. They kept the black and red patterns and reused the cat character later on
