A #Roman General of importance to #Trimontium & #Britain was born on 13th June AD40. Happy Birthday Gnaeus Julius Agricola, Roman Governor of Britannia & founder of Trimontium in the #ScottishBorders. He was born in Gallia Narbonensis (France). The water pipe is from Chester
Dating to AD80-100, these #Roman blacksmith hoop tongs found at #Trimontium have a design that has not changed over time. They were used for making & attaching iron tyres which ran round the circumference of wooden spoked wheels, such as the one pictured, also found at Trimontium

Now in the @NtlMuseumsScot of Scotland collection, this #Roman cavalry helmet was found at #Trimontium during the 1905-10 excavations & James Curle described it as "one of the most beautiful things that the receding tide of Roman conquest has left behind". It dates to AD80-100.
After James Curle excavated #Trimontium (1905-10) he published 'A Roman Frontier Post and its People'. The book contains beautiful colour plates of the many objects discovered - this page shows varied items found on the site - with pictures of 2 objects for comparison.
