#318 Anastasia & Viy
Anastasia was a dedicated prankster & was very active to the point that one of her nicknames was “little mischief”.
Her companion Viy is supposedly from folklore, but likely it was an invention by Nikolai Gogol, the author of the novella of the same name.
HELLO EVERYONE!

I’ll have some prints at a discounted rate from my usual shop prices and I’m breaking the glass on my secret final stash of tarot decks for this event!
I’m also going to have signed and numbered Viy posters available before I drop them in my shop 🌙✨
Here’s a horror movie for your Halloween watchlist this year! Вий (Viy) is the first and only horror movie made during the Soviet era, based on a Ukrainian folk tale of the same name! It has great very cool practical effects, mood lighting and costume design 👻

Been eagerly picking up the @DeafCrocodile restorations of the Russian fantasy films Ilya Muromets and Sampo, only to learn that director Aleksandr Ptushko later played a significant role in the story and art direction of Viy. Viy's style makes so much sense within this context.
