#OTD on February 27, 1966, the Soviet spacecraft #Venera2, intended to explore Venus from the flyby trajectory, made its closest approach to Venus at a distance of 23,810 km. Unfortunately, it had overheated due to a radiator malfunction and failed to return data after the flyby.
