If you watch the #SpyroAHerosTail title sequence from a different angle, you'll spot something strange. This floating sword is part of the Gnorc's model, so it must be stored somewhere in the scene. The developers simply decided to put it far below the ground. #SpyroTheDragon

Judging by this early #SpyroAHerosTail screenshot, there was an entire room below Elder Magnus' tree house at some point during development. The screenshot file is dated 12th of May 2004.
In the demos of #SpyroAHerosTail, an inaccessible part of Dragon Village seems to be directly modelled after some of Matt Dixon's concept art.
A short #SpyroAHerosTail pre-release article from the August 2004 issue of GamePro Magazine, featuring some exclusive early screenshots. It's likely that the build used in these screenshots is identical or very similar to one of the recently released prototype builds.

Mammoths were originally planned for #SpyroAHerosTail, but were cut partly due to them "being too cute to kill". They can be spotted in a few early screenshots and in the August 3rd prototype build (where they are clearly unfinished).
The original title for #SpyroAHerosTail was "Spyro: The Dark Realms" until it was changed in early 2004. An early logo with this title can be found in the design documents featured on a press kit.
During development of #SpyroAHerosTail, there were plans for visible changes on the home realms before and after they are corrupted by Dark Gems. While this idea was scrapped, before-and-after images of the realms are featured in the game's art gallery.
