The Bitterhide Kalo! A large mammal that produces sour, foul secretions from a symbiotic algae. They’re also quite strong, known to be able to crack through the iron-strong shells of dragon eggs. Such a bizarre beast is occasionally kept by Pepperman clans in ranches.

Shira is a Kelp Mermaid!! Some choice info:
Kelps are a rare species of photosynthetic mermaids with fins made of kelp algae.
They're very colorful, lethargic, and peaceful. Can spend decades just sitting in the same spot soaking in sunlight!

Real life sloths pass algae from mother to child when born. I imagine these guys went extinct due to the domestication of Slakoth and people cleaning the algae out of it's fur so much to a point that it couldn't pass the algae along anymore.

I find it really interesting how the red color of meat and blood cannot be changed. The “algae” is still blood red. It’s like a way to connect the illusion and the reality. It also stands out in the monochromatic color schemes of the brown illusion and grey reality.
