Evil Eyes
🧿 ⬅️ This blue symbol has long been used to counter the evil eye.
It is known as apotropaic or protective magic.
The emoji is the NAZAR AMULET which originated in Mesopotamia and spread in use through the Mediterranean.
I should mention, the last time I drew a concept in this style was Svoli as an Apotropaic God (top left)

Martinia Annua is a Central American plant with interesting-looking seeds. It is now used in Thailand for making charms (gilded & immersed in oil), as these seeds resemble Hindu / Buddhist / Jain mythological creature Garuda.

It is not uncommon to find walls and fences along the coast of Hookland decorated in apotropaic hope. Fetishes of fish and anchor, net and float. As if invasion from King-Under-the-Sea is feared and the owners with to say ‘a friend of the waves lives here’.
One month until the grand opening of #ADORN, a new exhibition of jewellery ancient & modern at Colchester Castle Museum. I got a sneak peek & spotted 5 Roman pieces that protect the wearer against evil. https://t.co/dZZICRcuf9
