Asexuality and aromanticism may not be the main focus of eir memoir, but Gender Queer is very much an asexual and aromantic story. It is a deeply personal account of Maia’s life as an aroace person.
Sonic isn't going be attracted to every girl he comes in contact with, especially when he already may like one and is fixated on other things. Sonic being skittish with Amy's overwhelming advances or (spine crushing) PDA doesn't mean he experiences aromanticism, per se.

a misconception about aromanticism is that "you cant be in relationships" which is false. i can, it just won't work as romantic, I can still have platonic partners ya dummies, in my case,they gotta be non-men
