Upon returning home after living in Australia for a few years (where I'd begun to step away from animating) I decided I needed a change in my artistic pursuit. I began to realise that I found illustrating far more satisfying as a creative process

I love commissions of many areas when clients come to you with a loose idea but want you to do your own thing - full artistic freedom as long as you tick a couple of boxes. They make my heart sing.

I want to come up with images that have a bit of life & energy to them. I want to walk a tight-rope just a bit. So: I still prefer to use traditional media like paint, pencil, pens, ink, colouring pencils, and then get it into the computer

I love editorial illustration, illustrated maps and recipes, book illustration and creating branding for select clients. I’d love to design ceramics, I’m a big tea drinker and would love to drink out of a cup I’ve designed some day!

What do you do to maintain a good work/life balance?
Well, I don’t really have a healthy balance. It all merges into one. Working from home means I end up flitting from the computer to the washing machine or walking the dog.

How do you keep a good work/life balance?
For me, the best thing ever is exercise, swimming in particular. I swam when I was younger and got back into it about 10 years ago.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration comes from all around. I’m an observer and an absorber. I usually see things around me with a humorous twist, so my work tends to reflect that.

My dream job would be to illustrate a children's picture book, my biggest influences are the children's illustrators Miroslav Sasek, Mary Blair and the Provensens, so to be asked to do a book in a similar vein to them would be amazing.

As for a work/life balance, I simply manage my time to allow both. Projects can sometimes take over as if the deadline is short, then I just need to forgo everything until it is done.
