There have been a lot of birds I was looking forward to in but the curl-crested aracari is one of my long-term favorites. The colors and textures are everything to me.

they're the largest heron in north america, and a very common visitor to wetlands! they hunt by sight & stealth alone, standing still for long periods of time as they wait for an unsuspecting fishy to swim up!

day 1 for an Eastern Towhee!

bird fax: like meadowlarks, towhees are subject to a lot of taxonomic debate! The "rufous-sided towhee" was split into two species, the spotted & eastern towhee. Unlike the "yellow-breasted" meadowlarks tho, they will often interbreed!
