Lady Emma Hamilton born in 1765 was an English model, dancer, actress & mistress of Lord Nelson. The portraits show her posing as a ‘Bacchante' & ‘Ariadne’ She would amuse her guests by recreating the poses of the people on the classical Greek vases owned by her husband.

That said, there are exceptions to the rule. The bacchantes/maenads are a good case in point. Under the influence of their patron Dionysus, they run through the wilderness clad in nothing but a fawn skin, ripping beasts (or people!) apart with their bare hands.
