'A rock shore; cliffs of mussel-blue shell. Wine-red, icy pink, pure white, yellow and green. The surf creamed at the foot of the coloured walls. Colours evoked images, images evoked words..'

She lived in Wales, and the Greek island of Hydra. After her marriage ended in 1946 she moved to the isolation of Bardsey Island. The landscape became a defining place of inspiration for her art.
She died in 1971, age 59 after an overdose of sedatives.
