In 1883 he worked on his early masterpiece Bathers at Asnières. His image was of working class people relaxing, which he painted in the studio (a practice eschewed by Impressionists). The Mower (1881-2), Boy (c1882), Artist’s Mother (1882-3) & Study for Bathing (1883)
I love those who choose the cold places.
The fiddlehead hunters.
The sunlit field dreamers.
The feather finders.
The maple sap boilers.
The river bathers.
The firefly watchers.
I love their warm wood stove hearts, their thick blood.
They are walking hearth fires.

Meet Donuoff! (Donuts+wouff)🐕🌊
This Pokémon has more than 3 stages: let’s see how far we can go!
He’s the trusted companion of the lifeguards. Donuoff is always ready to dive into the water and help the bathers in difficulty, making them cling to the donut on his neck

The pathos of Christ condemned stands in dramatic contrast with his image of a tyrant king leading by fear. Women running from Satyrs (1850), Ecce Homo (c1851), The King Continues to Reign with Order (1851) & Bathers (c1852)

An artist at work: I have enhanced for you this gorgeous autochrome by Antonin Personnaz, which captures the artist Armand Guillaumin painting bathers in Crozant, central France, way back in 1907. It was photographed in colour and isn't colourised. 😍
