Two Women in A Garden, Eric Ravilious, 1932. Painted at Brick House, Great Bardfield in #Essex, it depicts Tirzah Garwood, Eric’s wife, and Charlotte Bawden, who was married to artist Edward Bawden. The original artwork is in the collection of @FryArtGallery.
After being shipwrecked off Africa, Edward Bawden ended up a prisoner of the Vichy French in Casablanca. Here he painted this painting"Interned British officers taking a weekly bath". The prisoners were mistreated and Bawden had a mistrust of the French for the rest of his life.

Happy #Caturday! I have been admiring Edward Bawden's cat illustrations today. He had done in the 1950s a lot of work for Fortnum and Maison (a luxury department store) with Ruth Gill.

@V_and_A @britishmuseum @I_W_M @Tate @DulwichGallery #Ravilious was taught by Paul Nash @RCA. They would also spent much time exploring Wiltshire together.
He was also friends with Edward Bawden, another pupil at RCA who was also a painter & illustrator: the two friends are seen together here.
Visit the Architectural Elements exhibition and explore Edward Bawden's passion for architecture through prints, advertising campaigns & private commissions, some of which have never before been on public display. Last day to visit is 16 January 2022.
