Today I'm writing about François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters' marvellous city Blossfeldstadt in their graphic novel 'The Shadow of a Man'. Its skyscrapers are inspired by the photographs of magnified plant stems and leaves in Karl Blossfeldt's 1928 book 'Unformen der Kunst'
Trollius Europaeus (Globeflower) enlarged 5 times, from Karl Blossfeldt's stunning Urformen der Kunst (1928).

Yr9 have been closely drawing from Karl Blossfeldt’s stunning photos, it has improved their use of textural marks. One of these is my example and I don’t think you can tell which one it is, I’m so impressed with the intense focus and skill that these students are displaying.
Karl Blossfeldt’s pinhole photographs of plants inspired a generation of designers. https://t.co/rJV8rqLRr0 #design #plants #photography
