I often suggest trying something completely different after HP but wonderful like Wonder in fact! Or how about the Murder Most Unladylike books. Nevermoor for fantasy or Storm Keeper's Island - both terrific and great for this age.

I like the odd bit of glitter myself! How about pink sparkles and a bit of goth thrown in for good measure? The Isadora Moon books are great fun!

One of my favourite books to gift a new baby is Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox and Helen Oxenbury - such a charming rhyming text and the illustrations are sublime. Avail in board book too.

I'd suggest fast paced books with lots of illustrations. And I'm a huge fan of graphic novels. The books for age 9+ are terrific - well written and full of wisdom. Guts is about a girl who worries and learns to overcome it.

Cá Bhfuil Puifín Beag by and is a fab translation of the beloved Where Are You Puffling. Puifín Beag goes missing and we must search through the skelligs to find her! This charming book is a favourite in my house! (age 2+)
