I watched a ton of puppet shows as a little kid, and I always could tell they weren't real, but I never once questioned if the Muppets were real. were just as real to me as any live person. That was due in no small part to performance.

I loved the way Animation House LTD drew Big Bird for those Follow that Bird animated sequences.
If I were to work on these characters someday I would follow this lead.
