I do remember Roopdhar ki Kahaniyaan… besides there were several swashbuckling fantasy serialised stories in Chandamama. There were great artists like Teja who would do painted covers for Chandamama back in the day. And then there were crazily talented artists like Chellam.

Grew up looking at pictures in Chandamama, I really believed that our Gods looked like this. Thanks to Vaddadi Papayya, who gave colorful images that built a visual imagery to our culture.

No introduction is needed to the phenomenon of our times. Those who read it during their childhood know what Chandamama meant. It was a world by itself for us. The dreamland magazine for children was such a passion for us during childhood.

These designs are based on/inspired by the Vedic Period of India’s history, as well as a bit of the Mauryan era. Outside of research, some of my visual inspo came from those nostalgic Chandamama illustrations, as my dad used to collect them, as well as the Mahabharata serials!
