Kunichika was a pupil of Chikanobu and Toyokuni III and was called the "Sharaku of the Meiji era" and it is said that Kunichika originated the new composition of depicting a single actor on triptychs. Kunichika is said to be an odd character, as Kunichika himself admitted.
