@ au ra wols what reptiles/whatever species you associate them with: im shy qrting, but olyzas is inspired by melanistic alligators and coelacanths for their star marks/immortality themes!!! they have a mix of cosmoid scales n scutes. their horns are... crescent moon shapes FHDSJ

hi my gf @virtualbeetle is participating in project Open Squish w/ a design based on coelacanths, my fav animal of all time ever ;w; it'd mean everything to us if they won, pls vote 5/5 ;w;!!!
@VladimirDinets @MarkWitton @albertonykus @digital_duck Coelacanths were known from complete specimens 100 years before the living one was rediscovered. For example, this is Macropoma mantelli named by Agassiz in 1835.

They probably went undetected for so long since they had adapted to live in the deep sea, which is a poorly represented environment in the fossil record. It's a similar situation to the gap between Cretaceous and modern coelacanths. Art by @paleospot. #FossilFishWeek
@v_lacanth Wait I love /demonfish/ coelacanths!! /Lovefishingthem/ I'm an orange fairy with a human form too so I've got 2 outfits really, but I'm all about being bright~
Compared to living coelacanths #Holopterygius_nudus was tiny, just 7 cm long, and reminds us that coelacanths were morphologically much more diverse in the past and were experimenting with an eel lifestyle long before true eels evolved hundreds of million years later. #EelOrNoEel

Yesterday was the #SturgeonMoon ! I didn't know about these fishes: they are primitive like coelacanths, my fav fish species 💙 #MoondyCardProject #FullMoon

#mermay prompt 5: Coelacanth
I know naturally coelacanths are brownish/blue, they look so nasty and cool when preserved so I couldn't resist using that coloration on this probably ancient coelacanth merm ✌️

The thing about coelacanths is that every single one of them LOOKS like they were there 400 million years ago for the birth of tetrapods, and they've been regretting it ever since
