Not at all related tangentially (just randomly reminded by bringing it up), but I plugged this old Ask pic of a mimic into AI-driven colorizers (Paintschainer Canna before it became Petalica, and Hotpot) and the output was honestly kinda impressive hahaha, I should do this again.

For those curious, I basically rough in some colors (left) and the auto colorizer produced the image on the right.

I then bring back the original colors at a low opacity. When I have time I'll go back and do a paintover of the combined layers.

Short answer? Yes.

Of the 3-4 colorizers I've tried, I like the range of colors best from Hotpot. The first one I tried had too many yellow tones. By adjusting the hue slider, I got a completely different look here.
