Did you know the most fearsome monster in D&D, the Tarrasque, was not originally in D&D? The Tarrasque didn't debut until Advanced D&D's Monster Manual II in 1983, 9 years after the game was first published. More in comments. 🧵

Happy Monday! Between 1977 & 1983, TSR (pre-WOTC publisher of D&D) published 3 different books of monsters for 1E Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. Today I'll talk about different art styles in those 3 books, starting with the covers. Which is your favorite? 🧵

next is my very good tiefling bard boy, Harley! Harley is from a declining country noble family; he left home to go to the big city to marry rich and instead found a group of wacky adventuring friends who helped him discover himself.

rhyannon, my vampire/rogue/paladin. snarky, selfish, paranoid. she was turned into a vampire as an act of revenge against her family when she was 8. towards the end of the game, baba yaga took kindly to her and turned her back into a human (and her proper age).

pearl was my 4th dnd PC & the 1st magic item i made. she's a body snatching necklace whose only motive is to have fun & cause chaos (bards ftw). the 1st body she stole was a water genasi scavenger. pearl has no memories of her original life but she used to be mortal.

my 3rd dnd character was penny, a half elf life cleric who did her best to spread goodness. i played her for 2 years & she was the 1st character i really deeply connected with. bookish, kind, a bit of a nag - & brave when she needed to be.

my 2nd dnd character was aerilyn everdear, a noble air genasi fighter who'd only ever fought for show before and was suddenly thrown into real battle.

i didn't play her much but as soon as i introduced her like half our party tried to hit on her (2019, 2015, 2015)
