That's the way I do my retro bases on my 80s and 90s models :) I paint the base green after putting sand on, then use a green shade over it and finally do a yellow drybrush. Gets that classic retrohammer base look :)

For a more modern look you can do it in greys/browns.

This book has so much texture, especially when music is happening. I made a bunch of abstract boards with random drybrush techniques and chaotic stuff to add to art and then inverted and adjusted the colors in PS. This layer is set to "lighten" with 48% opacity.

Most of the highlights on here are just drybrushed on. My latest BB team used contrast paints in a new way and I'm hoping to get around doing a blog or something about it... I will be doing my Cursed City box in the same way.

It very much depends. Usually, as you read in the comments here, most make it part of the liner or glue it afterwards. I sometime simply drybrush/dye the part to make the smile and have a subtle finish.

The Arches rag is mounted on a block and won’t wrinkle even with a lot of water. It’s expensive, so I don’t use it for everything. I have smaller block 9 x 12 for less complex scenes. This watercolour with a little acrylic white drybrushed to push out the white haze.
