MAAAAAAN Truth of The Heart was such a good chapter!!!! The tabloid-magazine cover, the fight choreography, Tracy Yeardley's art! I could tell they were really enjoying the expressions, the back-and-forth banter!
Of all the children who sat for Joan Eardley, Andrew Sampson was her favourite. In this painting, he appears to be reading a comic, eating a biscuit and drinking a mug of milk. He would have sat for this painting in her studio with Eardley laying in his image on the canvas.

'Ruined Fence.' A friend of Joan Eardley, Hilda Goldwag's subjects included the nearby Forth and Clyde Canal, the tenements and the warehouses of Cowcaddens in Glasgow. In the 1950s she became known to the London art market for her exuberant landscapes and figurative work.

Like Auerbach and Kossoff, Joan Eardley made expressive, luminous figurative paintings. She worked exclusively from life on a few motifs she cared passionately about and dug deep into her subjects to bring a whole world into existence through paint, that transforming substance.
Remembering Joan Eardley (1921-1963) one of Scotland's most popular twentieth century artists.
She would be a 100 today.

One of my favourite artists (even more so since I moved to Glasgow) is Joan Eardley, who was born 100 years ago. She captured the rough charm and poverty of the city without patronising, celebrated it without sugar coating.
